After consultation with staff and leaders, we have made a decision to combine some of the events of the WTM Annual Meeting and Legislative Issues Conference into a one day event on Friday, December 6th.
The schedule that day will be as follows:
- WTM Annual Meeting for Judicatory Leaders, Clergy and heads of non-profits will be held from 10 a.m. until Noon.
- A working lunch for the Annual meeting and the Legislative Conference combined will begin at 12 noon.
That afternoon WTM and WTJ will begin with a framing of our work as “democracy in action”. We will then focus on the issue of Medicaid Expansion and our work to educate our constituencies on this critical issue as we head into the next legislative session. We will be joined by key allies on this issue. We will also provide information on other key legislative issues.
There will be two other important issue presentations during the Conference:
- The first is a presentation on the issue of brain drain by Mr. Jake McGraw of WTM staff. This presentation will help inform our leadership about Mississippi’s population loss and its consequences for our communities.
- The second presentation will be Jackson-focused, but has long-term implications for other communities around the state. Dr. Ira Goldstein of the nationally-recognized Reinvestment Fund and WTJ leaders will present their strategy for redeveloping Jackson using the Reinvestment Fund’s Market Value
